Duke’s Harding to Receive Robin Roberts/
WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award

ATLANTA, Ga. - Lindsey Harding of Duke University has been chosen to receive the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award.

The Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award is presented annually to one female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue graduate work and a career in sports communications/journalism.  As part of the scholarship, $500 is provided by Robin Roberts for travel to/from WBCA National Convention for the recipient, while $4,500 goes directly to the institution for the student’s tuition.

“The WBCA is pleased to present Lindsey Harding with this year’s Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “She has demonstrated an unprecedented devotion on and off the court and we wish her continued success in her future endeavors.”

This standout senior guard has led a balanced attack this season both offensively and defensively, holding averages of nearly 15 points, four assists, four boards and 1.5 steals.  She has notched six games and counting of 20+ points, all of which have been during her senior campaign.  Harding has steadied the Blue Devils at the brink of the USA TODAY ESPN NCAA Division I Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.  Harding has been selected as the ACC Player of the Year, ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was named an All-ACC First Team selection.

Harding, who completed a degree in Sociology along with a minor in Theater Studies and Markets & Management certificate, is currently finishing up the requirements for a minor in Women’s Studies.  She worked with CBS Sports over the summer of 2005 as an intern in the production department and has aspirations to go into sports broadcasting.  Harding is actively involved in the Special Olympics as she is a mentor, coach and has helped raise money for the Special Olympics.  She also has made many trips to the Durham Ronald McDonald House, the Durham Soup Kitchen, the Read with the Blue Devils program at area schools and Duke Hospital visits.

Harding will receive the award on Tuesday, April 3, during the WBCA Awards Luncheon presented by State Farm and Jostens at 12:00 p.m. (ET) in the Crowne Plaza’s Grand Ballroom. The luncheon is a part of the 2007 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women’s Final Four® in Cleveland, Ohio.

Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
