ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has selected Sydney Scott of Dartmouth College as the winner of the Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award. The $1,000 Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award, named for and presented by Stoner, a former legal consultant for the WBCA, is presented annually to one female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue a career in law. "I am pleased to present Sydney with the Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "Her efforts both athletically and academically have prepared Sydney for her next adventure in life. We wish her nothing but the best as she pursues a career in law." Throughout Scott's career at Dartmouth she has defined the term student-athlete. An English major from Houston, Texas, Scott averages a 3.47 GPA. This season she was named co-captain for the Big Green and was selected as a 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist. Scott earned All-Ivy League Second Team Honors in 2007 and was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team for the league in 2005. She ranks among the tops ever to wear the Dartmouth women's basketball uniform in career points (No. 16), career rebounds (No. 6) and career games played (No. 5). During Scott's four seasons, the Big Green has won two Ivy League Championships, made two NCAA Tournament appearances and one WNIT appearance. Off the court, she has participated in a foreign language study abroad program in Mexico and interned with U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (Texas). Scott will be honored at the WBCA Awards Luncheon presented by State
Farm and Jostens on Tuesday, April 8, at Noon (ET) in the Marriott
Waterside's Grand Ballroom. The luncheon is part of the 2008 WBCA National
Convention, held in Tampa Bay, Fla., in conjunction with the NCAA®
