Celebrating 25 Years with the WBCA
2006 Lessons from the Legends |
||
| ATLANTA, Ga. -The Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA) proudly announces this year's Lessons from the Legends
Celebrating 25 Years. This yearly favorite will feature the stakeholders
of women's basketball, each playing a significant role in the development
and growth of the WBCA.
"Lessons from the Legends helps us to honor and appreciate those who have paved the way for women's basketball," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "It is important to reflect and educate ourselves on the past, in order to see the colossal steps we have taken and also to see what lies in the future for women's basketball." The reception will take place on Monday, April 3, 2006, at 4:30 p.m. (ET) in the Hynes Convention Center Ballroom. This event is part of the 2006 WBCA National Convention in Boston, Mass., held in conjunction each year with the NCAA® Women's Final Four®. With many of the women's basketball legends in attendance at the 2006 Lessons from the Legends, it is an event you will not want to miss! Please join us in honoring and celebrating the foundation that was laid by the WBCA Past Presidents along with the visionaries of the WBCA. This year the WBCA celebrates their Silver Anniversary, marking 25 years of existence. Established in 1981, the WBCA began its quest to fully support women's basketball on all levels while providing women's basketball coaches with a dependable and effective organization. Betty F. Jaynes, current WBCA consultant, was the first Executive Director of the association and has served the WBCA since it's founding in 1981. Under the direction of Jaynes and Bass, the WBCA blossomed from its 212-member infancy into a 5,000-member-plus national organization and a leading resource, voice and advocate for women's and girls' basketball at every level. At the very first WBCA National Convention held in Virginia Beach, Va.
in 1982, the convention had only 99 registrants and 10 exhibitors. In
a surprising contrast, the 2006 WBCA National Convention held in Boston,
Mass., the WBCA will have approximately 2000 registrants and 120 exhibitors,
demonstrating the WBCA's growth and development over the past 25 years.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches
at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster
and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur
sport for women and girls. For more information about the WBCA, please
