ATLANTA, Ga. -The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has selected Seth Goodman of Monroe College as the 2006 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Junior College/Community College (JC/CC) Coach of the Year. This year marks the 24th year that this accolade has been presented, which has been selected by the WBCA since 1983.

"Seth Goodman has earned his keep amongst such a wonderful group of coaches at the Junior College/Community College level," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "I would like to congratulate Goodman for being named the 2006 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Junior College/Community College Coach of the Year."

In his fifth year at Monroe College, Goodman has compiled a 123-30 composite record and this season marks his team's third consecutive Region Championship. The Lady Mustangs have earned the number one seed in the NJCAA National Tournament and continue to battle for the national championship.

Last year, the Lady Mustangs finished 33-2 marking the best record in Monroe College history as well as making an appearance in the NJCAA National Finals. Goodman also earned WBCA Regional Coach of the Year while two of his student-athletes earned Academic All-America. His team was named an Academic All-American team that year with a composite 3.19 GPA.

During the 2003-04 season, he led his team to the program's first-ever Region Championship, finishing as the number six-ranked team in the nation after competing in the NJCAA National Tournament.

In addition to Goodman's coaching duties, he also serves as the Coordinator for the Monroe College High School Programs. Prior to his career at Monroe College, Goodman was an assistant coach at Mount St. Vincent College and has also served as the Co-Director and coach of Hoop Street Gang, a non-profit organization to help boys get to the next level.

"Russell Athletic is proud to support the WBCA and be the presenting sponsor of the Coach of the Year Awards," said Calvin Johnston, President & CEO of Russell Athletic. "We are huge supporters of women's sports across America and rewarding excellence is a hallmark of our company."

Goodman is one of six RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coaches of the Year selected by the Association, which also names winners for each of the other four WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II,III, and NAIA) as well as High School. Each collegiate winner is selected through a two-level process. The first level is by region, in which coaches from each WBCA geographical region vote for their respective top coach.
