ATLANTA, Ga. -The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has selected Glenn Wilkes, Jr. of Rollins College as the 2006 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Coach of the Year. This year marks the 24th year that this accolade has been presented, which has been selected by the WBCA since 1983.

"Glenn Wilkes, Jr. has shown himself to be an outstanding coach and leader in collegiate women's basketball today," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "The WBCA is proud to present Wilkes with the NCAA Division II Coach of the Year Award."

Completing his 20th season with the Tars, Wilkes has never fallen short of a winning record, including sixteen 20-plus win seasons. In the past nine years, Wilkes has compiled a 204-50 record and holds the honor of the winningest coach in Rollins women's basketball history with a 446-141 overall record. His .760 winning percentage puts Wilkes in the top 15 among all active NCAA Division II coaches.

His teams have earned ten regular season Sunshine State Conference (SSC) titles, six SSC Tournament championships and he has been named SSC Coach of the Year nine times. Wilkes has also earned South Regional Coach of the Year five times and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament nine times.

This season the Tars finished the regular season at 26-0, the first basketball team in Rollins history to finish the regular season undefeated. They became the first team in SSC history to go through the conference season undefeated at 16-0. Rollins finished the season at 28-2 after a tough loss in the first round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

"Russell Athletic is proud to support the WBCA and be the presenting sponsor of the Coach of the Year Awards," said Calvin Johnston, President & CEO of Russell Athletic. "We are huge supporters of women's sports across America and rewarding excellence is a hallmark of our company."

Wilkes is one of six RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coaches of the Year selected by the Association, which also names winners for each of the other four WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA Divisions I and III, NAIA and JC/CC) as well as High School. Each collegiate winner is selected through a two-level process. The first level is by region, in which coaches from each WBCA geographical region vote for their respective top coach. Wilkes, having received the most votes in WBCA Region 5-South, advanced as a finalist to the national level of the selection process along with the other seven Regional Coaches of the Year in NCAA Division II.
