Hansen Earns Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has selected Hillary Hansen of the University of California, San Diego as the winner of the Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award.  The $1,000 Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award, named for and presented by Stoner (former legal consultant for the WBCA) is presented annually to one female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue a career in law.

“The WBCA is proud to announce Hillary Hansen as this year’s recipient of the Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship Award,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “Hillary has already proven herself as a dedicated individual both academically and athletically. We wish her well as she continues to pursue a career in law.”

Hansen, a Political Science and Critical Gender Studies major, has not only proven herself on the court, but in the classroom as well.  She currently holds an impressive overall GPA of 3.87 and was selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First Team All-Academic District 8 squad for the second year in a row this season.

This senior forward averages 13.5 points and 7.5 boards per game.  Hansen also posts a notable 45.1 field goal percentage and 84.7 free throw percentage.  Most recently, Hansen helped to lead UC-San Diego to the program’s first CCAA hoops title, after the program consistently held a top 25 spot in the USA TODAY ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.  As a junior, Hanson started all 28 games for UCSD and earned Second Team All-CCAA honors.

Hansen will be honored at the WBCA Awards Luncheon presented by State Farm and Jostens on Tuesday, April 3, at 12:00 p.m. (ET) in the Crowne Plaza’s Grand Ballroom.  The luncheon is part of the 2007 WBCA National Convention, held in Cleveland, Ohio, in conjunction with the NCAA® Women’s Final Four®.

Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
