|
LILBURN, Ga. (March 31, 2003) -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)
announced today that Tiffany Jackson of Duncanville High School has been named
the State Farm/WBCA High School Player of the Year. The Women's Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA) presents this award annually to the top players in each of
the five WBCA collegiate divisions (Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and JC/CC) at its
National Convention, held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's
Final Four. The High School Player of the Year is honored at halftime of the WBCA
High School All-American game on April 4, 2003 at Georgia Tech's Alexander Memorial
Coliseum in Atlanta, Georgia.
"Tiffany is an outstanding athlete. Her credentials both on and off the court speak for themselves," said WBCA Chief Executive Officer Beth Bass. "We are extremely pleased to present Tiffany with the WBCA Player of the Year award." The 6'4 senior forward has signed to play at the University of Texas next season. Jackson has been a part of many accolades this year, including Street & Smith's All-American First Team and Gatorade Player of the Year. She had a phenomenal senior year in leading Duncanville to the state championship. The State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year award is the highest honor a high school women's basketball player can receive. The award is selected by an 11-member State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year Committee, consisting of one WBCA-member coach from each of the different districts all over the country. Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
