| WBCA Announces Board of Directors Election Results | |
|
ATLANTA, GA (June 24, 2003) -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its election results, which place several new members on its Board of Directors. Newly elected board members are Vice President, Mickie DeMoss (Head Coach, University of Kentucky); Secretary, Bonnie Hendrickson (Head Coach, Virginia Tech); Division I Midwest Representative, Lisa Bluder (Head Coach, University of Iowa); Division I West Representative, Julie Wilhoit (Head Coach, Loyola Marymount University); Male Coaches of Women's Basketball Representative, Douglas Bruno (Head Coach, DePaul University); and Assistant Coaches Representative, Stephanie Glance, (Assistant Coach, North Carolina State University). Elected to serve a second term is Division III/At-Large Representative, Pamela Ruder (Head Coach, University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh); and NAIA Representative, Susan Johnson (Head Coach, Georgetown University). "The WBCA is extremely pleased to have such quality people elected to our Board of Directors," said WBCA CEO, Beth Bass. "We have such dynamic and bright coaches on our Board that continually strive to improve women's basketball. These individuals truly exemplify what our Board is about." In compliance with the WBCA by-laws, the association also named Wendy Larry, Head Coach, Old Dominion University, as President. Serving as vice president the last two years, Larry automatically succeeds to the office of the president, and thereafter, to the office of past president. "I look forward to responding to the trust, responsibility and task of serving as president of the WBCA," said Larry. "The members of our board are great ambassadors of women's basketball, and will continue to work toward moving our sport in a positive direction." Other members of the WBCA Board of Directors include, Past President, Marsha Sharp (Head Coach, Texas Tech University); Treasurer, Mary Ellen Burt (Head Coach, Union College); Division I East Representative, Debbie Ryan (Head Coach, University of Virginia); Division I Mideast Representative Cathy Parson (Head Coach, Howard University); Division II/Group I Representative, Dave Smith (Head Coach, Bellarmine University); Division II/Group II Representative, Paul Thomas (Head Coach, Cal State Poly Pomona); Division III/At-Large Representative, Kris Huffman (Head Coach, DePauw University); JC/CC Representative, Valerie Goodwin-Colbert (Head Coach, Southwestern College); High School Representative, Rick Insell (Head Coach, Shelbyville High School); Black Coaches Association Representative, Shann Hart (Head Coach, American University); Committee On Basketball Issues Chair, Patty Viverito (Senior Associate Commissioner, Missouri Valley Conference); NCAA Division I Legislative Chair, Terri Mitchell (Head Coach, Marquette University); NCAA Division II Legislative Chair, Nancy Winstel (Head Coach, Northern Kentucky University); NCAA Division III Legislative Chair, Timothy Shea (Head Coach, Salem State College); and WNBA Representative, Tracy Ellis-Ward (Director of Basketball Operations, WNBA). The WBCA Board of Directors manage all business and affairs of the association. To be eligible for election to the Board of Directors, candidates shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and shall have maintained at least two consecutive years of Active membership (Associate Membership for high school coaches) in the WBCA, and at the time of their nomination or appointment to the Board of Directors, shall be Active (Associate) members in good standing, and who shall remain in good standing on the date of election and through their term on the Board of Directors. Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
