Ga. -Kansas State University's Kendra Wecker has been named the Women's
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Player of the Month for February.
In the month of February, the 5-foot-11 senior forward averaged 19.9 points, 11.4 rebounds and recorded five double-doubles. Wecker became just the second player in Big 12 Conference history and the first player in school history to amass over 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. As a result of her accomplishments, Wecker garnered Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 22-27. As the 2005 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, Wecker is the only player in the Big 12 to average a double-double on the season with 21.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. This season, Wecker compiled 15 double-doubles. That achievement brought her career total to 50, setting a school record. . On February 26, Wecker became only the second women's player in Kansas State history to have her jersey retired. Wecker was named a 2003 Kodak/WBCA All-America Honorable Mention and is the school record holder for the most consecutive free throws made (28). During her career at Kansas State, Wecker has been named as a finalist for The State Farm Wade Trophy and the Naismith National Player of the Year awards. In her first season with the Wildcats, Wecker was the top freshman in Big 12 games in scoring, rebounding and steals and was in the top five in blocks and assists. Wecker also broke the freshman record for rebounds in a season with 264.
