ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) today announced that University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point senior Amanda Nechuta has been named the State Farm/WBCA NCAA Division III Player of the Year. The WBCA presents this award annually to the top players in each of the five WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and JC/CC) and high school.

"Amanda has had an impressive career at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point," said WBCA CEO, Beth Bass. "We are extremely pleased to present her with the State Farm/WBCA Division III Player of the Year award, and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors."

Nechuta ended her tenure with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the top of the record books. Finishing her career with 1,801 points, having played in a school and conference record 120 career games, Nechuta finished as UW-Stevens Point's all-time leading scorer. She also finished her career as the third all-time leading scorer in WIAC history.

This season, the Mosinee, Wisconsin native was the first player ever voted WIAC Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons. She led the WIAC in scoring for the third consecutive season, averaging 16.8 points per game and was voted First Team All-WIAC for the third straight season.

"State Farm is proud to partner with the WBCA to recognize this gifted student-athlete for her dedication and the tremendous achievements she has accomplished," said Pam El, Vice President of Marketing at State Farm.

The State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year Award is selected by the nine-member WBCA Player of the Year Committee, which consists of one WBCA-member coach from each of the eight WBCA NAIA Regions and the committee chair.

With being selected as the State Farm/WBCA NAIA Player of the Year, Nechuta will participate in the WBCA College All-Star Challenge game on April 2 at the University of Indianapolis. Nechuta will also be formally presented her award at the WBCA Awards
