| SAINT LOUIS FORWARD RECIEVES ROBIN ROBERTS/WBCA SPORTS COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARD | |
|
ATLANTA, Ga. - Angela Lewis of Saint Louis University has been selected to receive
the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Robin Roberts/WBCA Sports
Communication Scholarship Award, provided by the Women's Institute of Sports Education
(WISE).
The $2,000 Robin Roberts/WBCA Communications Scholarship Award is presented annually to one female collegiate basketball player who intends to pursue graduate work and a career in sports communication/journalism. "On behalf of the WBCA, I would like to congratulate Angela on this accomplishment," said WBCA CEO, Beth Bass. "She has exhibited great dedication in the classroom and on the court and we wish her continued success in the future." Lewis will receive the award at the State Farm Wade Trophy & State Farm/WBCA Players of the Year Luncheon, presented by Jostens at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The luncheon is a program of the 2004 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four in New Orleans, Louisiana. A senior and St. Louis native, Lewis is a third-team All-Conference USA selection this year. She also received that honor during her sophomore year along with being named the team's Most Valuable Player. During her freshman year, she was named to Conference USA's Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll (2000-2001). This season, she broke the school record for most field goals made in a season and her 485 points are the second-highest single-season total in school history. Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
