GULF COAST CC’s STANSBURY CLAIMS THE STATE FARM/WBCA JUNIOR COLLEGE/COMMUNITY COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Tiffany Stansbury from Gulf Coast Community College as The State Farm/WBCA Junior College/Community College (JC/CC) Player of the Year. The WBCA presents this award annually to the top players in each of the five WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and JC/CC) and high school at its National Convention.

In addition to this award, Stansbury also claimed Panhandle Conference Player of the Year. Past honors include being selected All-Panhandle Conference in the 2002-2003 season as well as being named to the All-Tournament team. Earlier in the season, Stansbury signed with Division I school, North Carolina State University. Stansbury and the No. 2 Lady Commodores will be taking on Lake Region State College in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament this evening.

"Tiffany has had an outstanding junior college career and we are pleased to present her with this honor," said Beth Bass, WBCA CEO. "We wish her continued success and achievement at North Carolina State University."

The State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year Award is selected by the 10-member WBCA Player of the Year Committee chaired by head coach of South Plains College, Lyndon Hardin, consisting of one WBCA-member head coach from each of the nine WBCA JC/CC Regions.

Stansbury's award will be formally presented before WBCA coaches and convention registrants at The State Farm Wade Trophy and State Farm/WBCA Players of the Year Luncheon, presented by Jostens on Sunday, April 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Luncheon is part of the 2004 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
