Future Stars of Women's Basketball Light Up The WBCA's 'Night Of All-Stars'

ATLANTA, GA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) showcased "The Night of All-Stars" on Friday night, filled with spectacular moments from the top basketball players at the high school and collegiate level. The event was highlighted by the High School All-America Game, featuring the top 20 high school seniors, and the All-Star Challenge, presenting the top 20 college seniors.

The WBCA High School All-America Game was a thriller, where the White Team defeated the Red Team 72-63 in overtime. Ivory Latta was the game MVP for the White, with 17 points and six assists. For the Red Team, Alesha Robertson was MVP, as she scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Tiffany Jackson, the State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year, tallied four points and nine rebounds for the Red Team.

The White Team dominated the first half, taking a 29-18 lead at the intermission. However, the Red Team made a run to tie the game at 60 at the end of regulation. In the overtime, it was the White Team in control, outscoring the Red Team 12-3 to earn the victory.

The head coach for the Red Team was Canyon High School's (TX) Joe Lombard, the Russell/WBCA High School Coach of the Year. Kelly Flynn of South Sioux City High School (NE) was the head coach for the White Team.

"This is a very talented group filled with outstanding athleticism," said Red Team head coach and Russell Athletic/WBCA High School Coach of the Year. Joe Lombard. "It was an honor to coach these young ladies. I look forward to seeing them excel at the collegiate level."

In the nightcap, Chrissy Floyd and the Stripes Team shot the lights out in the first half and never looked back, as they defeated the Stars Team 83-75 in the 6th annual All-Star Challenge on Friday night. The Stripes were 16-19 from the field in the first half, and they finished the game shooting over 62 %. Floyd, the Most Valuable Player, scored 17 points on 7-13 shooting along with six rebounds and three assists. LaToya Thomas (19 pts.), Aiysha Smith (11 pts.), and Plenette Pierson (14 pts.) were big assets in the Stripes win. Allison Curtain was the leading scorer for the Stripes, scoring 18 points in the loss. The Stars shot 55% from the field for the game. Sylvia Hatchell from the University of North Carolina was the head coach of the Stars Team, and Georgia Tech's Agnus Berenato was the head coach of the Stripes Team.

"It was great to have the opportunity to coach this group for the last time in their college careers," said head coach of the Stars Team, Sylvia Hatchel. This all- star team has awesome talent and deserves to play at the professional level."
