| Colorado State's Augspurger and Wilmington's Woodruff to Receive WBCA Scholarship Award | |
|
Lilburn, Georgia (March 12, 2003) -- The Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has selected Ashley Augspurger of Colorado State University and Megan Woodruff of Wilmington College as the 2003 WBCA Scholarship Award winners. These awards are presented annually to two womens basketball players in any of the four WBCA collegiate divisions (NCAA I, II, III, NAIA) who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the sport of womens basketball and to academic excellence. These awards enable deserving student-athletes to complete their undergraduate degrees or to begin work on advanced degrees. Each award is in the amount of $1,000. "Ashley and Megan are both outstanding student-athletes and are very deserving of our WBCA Scholarship," said WBCA Chief Executive Officer Beth Bass. "On behalf of the WBCA membership, I want to congratulate them and wish them all the best in their future endeavors." Augspurger and Woodruff will be formally presented their awards during the Jostens-Berenson Awards Luncheon, Saturday, April 5, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at the Georgia World Congress Center. The Jostens-Berenson Awards Luncheon is a part of the 2003 WBCA National Convention held in Atlanta, Ga. in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Womens Final Four. Augspurger led Colorado State to postseason in her first three years, and she
hopes to make it again as a senior. Last year, she scored her 1,000th point,
becoming the 12th player in Ram womens school history to score over 1,000
points. Augspurger was named this year to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District
VII Womens Basketball University Division Team, and she is carrying a
3.92 GPA in Biological Studies. Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes womens basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
