It is my privilege to address you as the new president of OUR coaches association.
We have a tremendous leadership opportunity ahead of us. WE will be the group of coaches that moves college women's basketball off the plateau and back on the rise. I encourage you to read two pieces of information as we prepare for the challenge ahead. The first is Val Ackerman's strategic "white paper" prepared for the NCAA. In it she reveals observations and suggestions, as a result of months of research, about the state of women's college basketball. The second is the June 18 New York Times article about the roll out of the "white paper." Please read and become familiar with both.
In addition, the NCAA, along with Val Ackerman, on June 18 conducted a teleconference to provide details and answer questions related to the strategic "white paper" that provides a comprehensive assessment of the current state of intercollegiate women's basketball and recommendations that will ensure the ongoing growth of the game. A digital replay of the call can be accessed by calling 800-475-6701 and entering pass code 295961 when prompted.
Our WBCA leadership team needs to be aware of your opinions as part of our membership. The WBCA will move forward as THE VOICE of women's basketball coaches. We need to hear "your voice" to determine "our voice." Feel free to contact me or other members of the WBCA Board of Directors with your thoughts and recommendations.
