WBCA Defensive Player of the Year
Definition
The WBCA Division I Defensive Player of the Year Award honors the best defensive collegiate NCAA Division I women's basketball player.
Eligibility
All Division I Conference Defensive Players of the Year are eligible to be nominated for the WBCA Division I Defensive Player of the Year Award. Conferences that do not select a Defensive Player of the Year may submit a nominee to represent their conference.
Criteria
• Must be a Conference Defensive Player of the Year (Division I only)
• Present-year game-by-game statistics (steals, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, blocked shots, and offensive charges)
• Awards/Achievements
Nomination
When the Division I Conference Defensive Players of the Year are selected, the WBCA will collect all criteria listed above from the conference SIDs. A spreadsheet will be compiled and sent to the WBCA Division I Defensive Player of the Year committee for review.
Selection
The WBCA Division I Defensive Player of the Year selection committee will review the compiled spreadsheet prior to the selection conference call in March. During the call, the committee will discuss the candidates and then they will vote on the WBCA Division I Defensive Player of the Year.
