WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew reacts to the announcement of the retirement of Stanford University head women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer:
“You are part of the generation that built women’s basketball into the game it is today. You are one of the sport’s fiercest competitors. You will remain an inspiration to your peers.
“Your student-athletes are better for having played for you. Your assistant coaches are better for having coached under you. Your peers are better for having coached against you. Your legacy and influence live on in all the people you strengthened.
“We wish you a happy retirement from coaching and hope you will continue your profound service to the game in new ways. The game is stronger because of you.
“Thank you, Tara, for being a legend and guardian of our great game.”
