Biography
In the history of college basketball, Carol Blazejowski finds herself among some hot-shooting and high-scoring players. All-time records indicate that regardless of gender, Blazejowski ranks among the game's all-time scorers, a list that includes such hot shots as "Pistol" Pete Maravich, Lionel Simmons and Freeman Williams, to name just a few. The 5-foot-10 Blazejowski, appropriately known as "The Blaze," tallied 3,199 points during a phenomenal career at Montclair (NJ) State College from 1974 to1978. The first-ever recipient of the Wade Trophy as the 1978 Women's Basketball Player of the Year, Blazejowski was a three-time All-America selection (1976, 1977, 1978) and was named Converse Women's Player of the Year in 1977. Blazejowski holds the single season (38.6 ppg, 1,235 pts) and career (31.7 ppg) women's basketball scoring records. In 1976, Blazejowski set the Madison Square Garden single game scoring mark with 52 points against Queens College, a mark that still remains a collegiate record. That same year, Blazejowski led Montclair State to the AIAW Final Four against UCLA.
