New Initiatives Intern

Reports To: Manager of New Initiatives/Director of Communications

Mission: Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport of women's basketball and to foster and promote the development of the game of basketball as a sport for women and girls.

Scope: The New Initiatives Intern will be responsible for assisting the Manager of New Initiatives with carrying out duties and assignments relevant to the WBCA Pink Zone and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund as well as other assignments deemed appropriate by the WBCA Director of Events, WBCA Chief Operating Officer and/or the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund Executive Director. Some manual labor, lifting, travel and weekends are required.

Responsibilities: WBCA Pink Zone (40%):
1.Responsible for taking notes during weekly Pink Zone meetings and sending meeting summaries to the Manager of New Initiatives.
2.Coordinate Convention signage and collateral material relevant to the Pink Zone.
3.Responsible for collecting and organizing media clips related to the initiative.
4.Responsible for checking the Pink Zone email account throughout the business day.
5.Make follow-up calls to last year’s participants who have yet to register for this year’s initiative.
6.Fulfill logo, radio spot and PSA requests from Pink Zone participants. Track the usage of the PSA to report to ESPN.
7.Update social media for the Pink Zone (facebook and Twitter).
8.Assist Pink Zone participants with registration and ensure we capture accurate information.
9.Make follow-ups calls to Pink Zone participants after the initiative to remind them to report their post-event information (amount raised, attendance, suggestions, etc.).
10.Assist with post initiative activities (thank you letters, invoices, etc.).
11.Collect and research breast cancer stories to showcase during the Pink Zone window, CWB publication and/or newsletter.
12.Perform any editing concerning pieces related to the Pink Zone.
13.Draft email blasts to be sent to the Pink Zone participation list and the WBCA membership and send to the Manager of New Initiatives for approval.
14.Serve as the liaison between Pink Zone contest winners and the sponsors. This will include collecting sizes, contact information and any other pertinent information.

Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund (35%):
1.Coordinate all room assignments, travel, transportation and ticket requests for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund Board of Directors at Convention.
2.Coordinate signage and collateral material needed for the Fund at Convention.
3.Assist with post event activities (thank you letters, reimbursements, tax receipts, etc.).
4.Track ESPN February Frenzy participants by communicating with each school’s SID and/or marketing department (in-arena promotions, charity of choice, etc.).
5.Responsible for collecting and organizing media clips related to the Fund.
6.Responsible for creating media kits for potential sponsors and Founding Partners. Make sure FishBait Marketing has a plentiful supply as well.
7.Update social media for the Fund (facebook and Twitter).
8.Responsible for recording, organizing and depositing checks made payable to the Fund. Handle periodic mail merges for the Fund’s charitable receipts.
9.Handle the education, distribution and tracking of the Events-in-a-Box CDs.



Administration (20%):
1.Receive telephone calls in a professional manner. Handle calls if possible and forward detailed messages for other calls.
2.Process telephone requests for pertinent information.
3.Maintain informative and accurate records as well as an organized filing system for designated areas of responsibility.
4.Generate all necessary correspondence related to assigned event(s) responsibilities.
5.Participate in all mailings including assembly, printing, and processing.


Other (5%)
1.Work the required three (3) Saturdays as designated by the WBCA Director of Events.
2.Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the WBCA Director of Events, WBCA Chief Operating Officer and/or Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund Executive Director.
