Jose Mori enters his second season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Indiana.
Prior to joining the Hoosiers, Mori spent three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Florida. His on-court duties for the Gators included the development of the wing players.
Mori was instrumental in the development of the Gators' leading scorer Sha Brooks, a 5-7 sophomore and Honorable Mention All-Southeastern Conference selection that averaged 15.4 points per game and sank a team-best 55 treys.
The 2000 graduate of Penn State and native of State College, Pa., spent two seasons as an assistant coach under Legette-Jack at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., before being promoted to assistant head coach by Legette-Jack on April 23, 2004. He was the top assistant on staff during the 2003-04 season, when the team recorded 14 wins, which were the most since the 1993-94 season.
Mori began his collegiate coaching career in August 2000, when he was an assistant coach at the University of Richmond. During his two years with the Spiders, he was involved with recruiting and oversaw the development of the guards and forwards. Richmond finished second in the Atlantic 10 West Division in 2002 after being picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll.
Prior to his time at Richmond, Mori was the head girls' basketball coach at Bald Eagle Area High School in Wingate, Pa., from August 1998 to May 2000. Mori led Bald Eagle to its first playoff appearance in eight seasons. He also coached at various levels of the Nittany Valley AAU program. As head coach of the 14-and-under (1997), 15-and-under (1998) and 16-and-under (1999) teams, Mori compiled an overall record of 45-11.
While attending Penn State, Mori worked as a scout team player for the women's basketball team under the direction of legendary women's basketball coach Rene Portland.
He is married to the former Christine Portland, who was a four-year basketball letterwinner at Penn State. Christine is the daughter of legendary coach Rene Portland. The couple has two girls, Mackenzie, born on April 8, 2006, and Mallory, born on March 3, 2008.
