Michael Landers begins his sixth season with the Lady Cards this year. He has kept the winning tradition of the Lady Cards alive and led the Lady Cards to their fifth national championship in 2004. Their 36-0 record that year marked only the second perfect season in Lady Cards history. Landers' five-year record as head coach at TVCC is 154-11.
Landers is a member of several different basketball organizations including the WBCA, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, Texas High School Coaches Association, Southwest Association of Basketball Coaches, and the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association.
Landers came to TVCC from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. The ETBU women were NCCAA Division II runners-up two consecutive years and compiled a 75-16 record in the three years Landers served as head coach. They were the Heart of Texas Conference Champions in 1998 and the NAIA Far West Region Champions in 1999.
Before taking over the coaching position at ETBU, Landers served four years as the team’s top assistant and recruiting coordinator.
Landers brought with him the same coaching philosophy that served him well at ETBU, a philosophy of hard work, commitment and preparation and that the combination of talent, effort and dedication can lead to championships.
“The philosophy that we teach our young ladies is that if you believe in yourself and expect more from yourself, you are capable of accomplishing anything,” he said. “We push our players to the limit every day to try to help them reach their potential.”
Landers is a graduate of Gladewater High School and received his bachelor’s degree in biology from ETBU in 1994 and his master’s degree in kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1997.
