Betty F. Jaynes (BFJ) Internship Program

The Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program offers six positions to qualified individuals interested in pursuing a career in athletics. All interns participate in the annual WBCA National Convention, held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four.

The Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program strives to educate its interns in all aspects of a professional athletic association including marketing, community relations and event management. Through practical experience, interns learn in a high-energy environment. Betty F. Jaynes interns have an opportunity to participate in the WBCA National Convention while increasing their hands-on work experience. Betty F. Jaynes interns gain valuable management and relationship-building skills.

In order to apply for an internship, the applicant must submit a personalized cover letter, resume, list of three (3) references and an originally typed writing sample which answers one of the following questions:

  • Since the evolution of the modern-day game of women's basketball, in your words, describe how the game has changed over the past two decades.
  • If selected to participate in the Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program, what do you hope to achieve while working with the WBCA?
  • What impact have sports made on your life?
  • Write about an experience or person that influenced your life significantly.

FAQ's for the Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program

1. When are the internships posted?
September 1
2. When can I apply?
Resumes are accepted only AFTER the positions are posted.
3. How do I apply?
Instructions are provided when the positions are posted. Applicants will need to send a resume, three (3) references and an orginal writing sample on one topic designated by the WBCA.
4. May I apply for all the internships?
You must indicate a preference for which internship you are applying. Applications without a stated preference will be given the least amount of consideration.
5. Does the WBCA offer summer internships?
No.
6. Is the internship paid?
Yes, however, medical benefits are not included.
7. How long is the internship?
One (1) of the positions will begin December 1 and the remaining five (5) will begin in early January. All internships are completed at the end of April.
8. Where is the WBCA office located?
The WBCA office is located in Lilburn, Ga., which is 30 minutes northeast of Atlanta.
9. Is this a full-time position?
Yes. The interns are expected to work Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Three Saturdays are required.
10. Does the WBCA secure housing?
No, this is the responsibility of the individual, however, the WBCA will assist.
11. Does the WBCA compensate for moving expenses?
No.
