WBCA Advocacy

The WBCA leads the way in protecting the rights of women and girls at all levels:

Title IX
Enacted in 1972 as an amendment to the Civil Rights Act and reads in part, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

Several members of the NCAA Executive Committee signed the following letter Sept. 19, 2005 in response to the Department of Education's additional clarification for Title IX. The committee feels that the latest clarification procedures are flawed and have the potential of undermining the overall purpose of Title IX. View Letter

Sexual Misconduct
"The WBCA does not tolerate sexual misconduct as it relates to the student-athlete either on or off the basketball court. Sexual misconduct is detrimental to the welfare and development of the student-athlete as a whole. The WBCA promotes trust between the athlete, her coaches, her administrators and faculty, which will in turn provide a safe and productive environment for the student-athlete's experience."
