Association Updates

WBCA Bylaws. A proposed comprehensive revision to the WBCA Bylaws is posted on wbca.org for the next 60 days. The proposed revision will be discussed during the general session from 9-10 a.m. on Monday at the WBCA Convention. The membership will vote on the proposed bylaw revision from June 1-10.

WBCA Board Positions. Nominations are being accepted for select positions on the WBCA Board of Directors through April 16.

2015 Convention

Registration. Convention registration is located on the 2nd floor of the Tampa Convention Center in the West Hall. If you registered in advance, look for the Pre-Registered lines. If you are registering on site, look for the On-Site Registration. Registration hours are:

Friday, April 3 – 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 4 – 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Sunday, April 5 – 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Schedule change for J/CC Business Meeting. The J/CC Business Meeting is now on Saturday, April 4, due to scheduling conflicts. The meeting will be from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at the Tampa Convention Center, Meeting Room 21.

Airport Shuttle. Advance registration is required for the airport shuttle in Tampa Bay.

The WBCA Convention App. The app is a FREE download for iPhones, iPads and Android devices. Go to iTunes or Google Play to download. If you had last year’s app simply update it.  If you store your apps in the cloud it may be necessary to delete the app in your cloud.  Otherwise, your device may reinstall the stored 2014 app rather than download and install the revised 2015 app.

“It’s Our Game!” Marketing Symposium presented by NIKE. The Marketing Symposium will start at 10 a.m. Friday, April 3. Badges are not required.

Career Resources. The Career Center bulletin boards are located inside the Courtside Expo in the Exhibitor Demonstration Area on the Expo floor.

Looking for games? Bring your information and post it on the Games bulletin board in the Demo Area of the Courtside Exposition.

NCAA

Application of the DI Council Subcommittee for Legislative Relief 4-4 Transfer Directive. The NCAA DI Board of Directors ratified an amendment to the NCAA DI Council Subcommittee for Legislative Relief policies to specify that immediate eligibility no longer be provided for 4-4 undergraduate student-athletes who are not eligible to use a transfer exception.
 
2016 Division I new academic requirements. The 2016 DI new academic requirement document discusses the new academic standards for student-athletes enrolling at a DI college or university on or after Aug. 1, 2016.

2018 Division II new academic requirements. The 2018 DII new academic requirement document discusses the new academic standards for student-athletes enrolling at a DII college or university on or after August 1, 2018.

Information for High School coaches. High school coaches should review the 2016 DI new academic requirement and the 2018 DII new academic requirement documents, as well as the Initial-Eligibility Brochure.

Finalists announced for the 2015 United States Marine Corps/WBCA Division I National Coach of the Year Award. Eight NCAA Division I coaches were named 2015 United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division I Regional Coaches of the Year, all coaches are finalists for the Pat Summitt Trophy.

Finalists announced for the 2015 United States Marine Corps/WBCA Division II National Coach of the Year Award. Eight NCAA Division II coaches were named 2015 United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division II Regional Coaches of the Year, all coaches are finalists for the Pat Summitt Trophy.

California University of Pennsylvania wins NCAA DII Women’s Basketball Championship. California University of Pennsylvania earned its second NCAA DII Women’s Basketball national title by beating California Baptist 86-69 on March 27.

Oklahoma City wins eighth NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. The Oklahoma City women’s basketball team won the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball championship for the second straight year after earning an 80-63 victory against Campbellsville (Ky.).

Thomas More claims first NCAA DIII Women’s Basketball Championship. Thomas More collected its first NCAA DIII Women’s Basketball national title following an 83-63 win against George Fox on March 21.

Chipola (Fla.) takes NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. On March 21 Chipola knocked off Hutchinson (Kan.) by a score of 54-46 to win the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.

Johnson County (Kan.) collects NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship. Johnson County grabbed its NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball championship second national title after beating Parkland (Ill.) 66-64 on March 21.

Joe Foley earns 700th victory. Arkansas-Little Rock posted a 69-60 win over Texas A&M on March 21 to give Joe Foley his 700th win.
