Welcome to Quick Hits

Quick Hits is replacing Fast Break as the new newsletter of the WBCA. Quick Hits is going to be distributed the first and third Wednesday of every month. The change comes as the WBCA is looking to better communicate with its members. Please be aware that Quick Hits is going to cut down on the number of emails you receive from the organization.  Coaches, make sure to pay attention to deadlines and reminders, so that you don’t miss out on nominating or voting.



October 10. Last day to participate in the Br}ache the Silence survey on the creation of a Coaches Corner interactive website.

October 24. Nominations for Allstate WBCA Good Works Team®, Carol Eckman Award, Jostens-Berenson Lifetime Achievement Award, Mel Greenberg Media Award and WBCA Administrator of the Year, as well as the “So You Want To Be A Coach” program close at 5 p.m. ET.

October 31. Unrenewed memberships expire at 11:59 p.m. ET. Renew your memberships now if you have not done so.

November 3.  Last day for NCAA Division I, II and III head coaches to view the 2014-15 NCAA mandatory rules video. Be sure you click on the correct video for your division.


2015 Convention

Registration. 2015 WBCA National Convention registration opens at noon ET Monday, Nov. 3. Your membership must be up to date to receive the member rate. After completing registration, you will receive a confirmation email including links to secure your convention houseing and 2015 Women's Final Four game tickets.

Housing. The hotel policies for the 2015 WBCA Convention: (a) 4-night minimum required at headquarters hotel, 3-night minimum for overflow properties; and (b) full minimum-night stay will be charged to credit cards one month before check-in date and is nonrefundable.

Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program. Applications are being accepted for the Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program for the Class of 2015.

Donehew Listening Tour. WBCA Executive Director @Danielle Donehew’s listening tour continues. In September, she attended the MAAC coaches meeting, NCAA/WCBO meeting, and the Sports Business Daily Game Changers Conference. In October, Danielle travels to the espnW Summit, the NACWAA Convention, and will present Connecticut head coach Geno Auriemma with the official national championship ladder from Werner Ladder.

Strategic Plan. WBCA unveils the association’s strategic plan.

Marines Leadership Training Workshop. 30 member assistant coaches participated in the U.S. Marines Leadership Training Workshop at Parris Island, SC.

4Kay Golf Classic. The annual 4Kay Golf Classic was held Sept. 7-8 in San Antonio, Texas.


Industry News

FIBA World Championship. The 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women began on Sept. 27 with group play and runs through Oct. 5.

U.S. senators demand answers from Power Five schools. Three U.S. senators have written letters to the CEO’s of each of the schools in the five power conferences, demanding responses to questions in 10 areas of athlete welfare.

Women’s basketball mock exercise spotlights 2015 championship changes. In early September, 53 individuals participated in the latest NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship mock exercise in Indianapolis.

MSG to honor 40-year anniversary of first women’s game there in January. Madison Square Garden is going to honor the first women’s basketball game played at the arena 40 years ago with a rematch between Queens (N.Y.) and Immaculata as part of the Maggie Dixon Classic.


Did you know?

Two NCAA Division I schools have reached the Women’s Final Four with co-head coaches at the helm. Marianne Stanley and Amy Tucker led Stanford in 1996. Louisiana Tech advanced in 1983 and 1984 with Leon Barmore and Sonja Hogg.
