Association Updates

“First 100 Days” report. Executive Director Danielle Donehew’s “First 100 Days” report to the WBCA Board of Directors is now available for all members to review. 

High School All-America Team nominations. Nomination forms are available online for the WBCA High School All-America Team

Nominations for select awards open Jan. 7. Beginning at noon ET Wednesday, Jan. 7, the WBCA will begin accepting nominations for the following awards:  Frances Pomeroy Naismith, Russell Athletic Together We R, WBCA Coach of the Year, WBCA Victory Club, Charles Timothy Stoner Law Scholarship and WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team.


 2015 Convention

Registration fee. The cost of a full convention registration for members jumps from $315 to $395 on Jan. 6. To register before the price increase, click here.

NCAA Women’s Final Four tickets. Tickets are still available through the WBCA ticket block, including seats in the lower level.  Check your convention registration confirmation for links and codes to access the WBCA ticket block via the NCAA third-party ticket vendor.

Roundtable presenters. The WBCA is seeking presenters for the general roundtable sessions and the assistant coaches roundtables presented by NIKE. Presenters can be WBCA-member head coaches, assistant coaches, video coordinators or directors of basketball operations at any level. Presenters must be registered for the convention. Deadline is Jan. 9.  Submit your information now!

Housing. Instructions on making hotel reservations in WBCA hotels are available online and included in the convention receipt.  Please review all hotel policies before making your reservation.  NCAA hotels and fan housing are also available options for WBCA convention registrants.  Tampa has a trolley system that may be beneficial when making hotel reservations.



Division I charter travel. The NCAA has released information relative to travel operations for the 2015 Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.

Division I Official Notice of Autonomy Proposals. Proposals that will be considered by the 65 member institutions and 15 student-athletes of the autonomous conferences during the Jan. 17, 2015 business session have been released.

Institutional Coaching Staff Members Involved with Outside Teams Including Prospective Student-Athletes. The educational column discusses Division I institutions and tryout legislation on or off campus.

NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. Oliver Luck, the West Virginia athletic director, has been named the executive vice president of regulatory affairs for the NCAA.

Bids. The NCAA is currently accepting bids for the 2015 Division I Women’s Basketball Championship first- and second-rounds. Please refer to the “Bid Checklist” for more information.
Rules change proposals. The NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee is now accepting rules change proposals to be considered for the rules survey and discussion at its annual meeting in May.

Rule and Mechanics Interpretations/Clarifications. The NCAA released a rule and mechanics interpretations/clarifications document on Dec. 1, 2014.

NCAA DII and DIII 2015 Legislative Proposals Q&A. The DII and DIII Legislative Proposals Q&A are now available. Proposals will be voted on Jan. 17 at the NCAA Convention.

AAU appoints new executive director. The Amateur Athletic Union of the United States Inc. has announced that Debby Batz will serve as the new executive director.

Florida Tech head coach John Reynolds collects 500th victory. John Reynolds earned his 500th win on Dec. 6 as Florida Tech beat Eckerd 76-60.

College of the Canyons head coach Greg Herrick obtains 500th win. On Friday, Dec. 12, Greg Herrick, head coach at College of the Canyons, attained his 500th win with an 80-65 victory over L.A. Trade Tech College.

Dawn Staley acquires 300th win. The University of South Carolina earned an 82-61 win over Charlotte on Dec. 4 to give Dawn Staley her 300th career victory.

Ryun Williams earns 300th victory. Colorado State women’s basketball coach Ryun Williams garnered his 300th victory after the Rams beat Denver 81-61 on Dec. 11.

Jean Dowell who coached the 1991-92 Mount St. Joseph women’s basketball team to the NAIA Division II Final Four played a key role in getting the University of Georgia women’s basketball program started.
