Plays/Drills of the Day. The WBCA is pleased to announce a new member benefit. Each day new plays and drills presented by FastModel Sports will be available in the Education section on Be sure to check it out daily.


Association Updates

Center for Coaching Excellence. A few spots are still available for the test-piloting version of the Center for Coaching Excellence at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway.  The head coaches session is August 11-12 and assistant coaches programming is August 13-14. WBCA Executive Committee met on June 24 in Washington, D.C. The WBCA Executive Committee met last week to prepare for the upcoming Board of Directors summer meeting. Recommendations include appointment of a new treasurer, adoption of Human Resources Operating Policies, and BOD working groups. The Executive Committee also met with the NCAA DI Women’s Basketball Committee and discussed the upcoming 2016 combined DI, DII, and DIII Championship in Indianapolis, the future regional rounds of the NCAA DI Championship (support for neutral sites,) and ticket sales and strategies for the championship.

New media timeout format for televised games. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a new media timeout format for televised women’s basketball games following the four-quarter format that was also recently put into place.

Travel expense pilot program extended. The NCAA Division I Council decided to pay for travel expenses for families traveling to the semifinal and final rounds of the women’s basketball championship for the 2015-16 season.

2016 Women’s Final Four® logo unveiled. The logo was unveiled during the Washington Mystics-Indiana Fever WNBA game on June 20.


Kay Yow Cancer Fund

Chip 'N 4Kay. The inaugural Chip N’ 4Kay Casino Night will take place in Augusta, Georgia, from 8 to 11 p.m. July 27 at the Augusta Marriott. The event is held in conjunction with Nike Nationals. Leta Andrews holds most victories for girls’ or boys’ basketball at the high school level. Leta Andrews coached from 1962-2014 and posted a record of 1,416-355. Andrews retired from Granbury High School as the age of 76. Robert Hughes who coached boys’ basketball until 2005 sits behind Andrews in the two spot with the most victories with a 1,333-265 record.
